genocide?
ethnic cleansing. i never imagined that such action is so malicious. gosh. millions of people are killed for just being a certain ethnic people. ya ya ya.. you are right, it’s because i have just watched the hotel rwanda movie and ya ya ya i know it’s soooooo late. just managed to watch it last saturday night, it was a midnight show, only played once. huhuhuhuhuhu…pitiful eh, such an eye opening movie should be at least played and than discussed among many. anyway, the movie has englightened me about genocide, one of the crimes against humanity.
what is genocide? at first i thought it just as a ethnic cleansing like what happened in rwanda, like hutu’s attempt to cleanse tutsi ethnic by murdering them in a massive massacre. it turned out that ethnic cleansing is just one of genocide elements.
As explained in Articles II and III of the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide, the international legal definition of the crime of genocide explained as the mental element, meaning the “intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnical, racial or religious group, as such”, and the physical element which includes five acts below
- Killing members of the group
- Causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group
- Deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part
- Imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group
- Forcibly transferring children of the group to another group
A crime must include both elements to be called genocide.
can you imagine the harshness of this particular crime? The International law has even made it clear that it is a crime to plan or incite genocide, even before killing starts, and to aid or abet genocide including conspiracy, direct and public incitement, attempts to commit genocide, and complicity in genocide. pppffmmmhh..at least there is an international body which has special concern on this! it is so devastating to see the movie, i wonder if the real incident is much worse than that knowing that movie can not always portray the truth.
in contemplative, this particular issue has left me thinking about Indonesia. our beloved countries with so many ethnic groups, various religions, thousands of differences. Hope we will never have to endure such tragedy. eventhough sadly to say, yes we got to admit that the very root of similar issue may have taken (or is taking place?) place here. people fighting those of different ethnic groups, fighting those with different religions. hope it is not getting worse, or i am just imagining things? i do not know.
btw, i barely able to abort my mission of talking to the movie goer couple sat beside me chit chatting and making film review from leaving the cinema (here i wrote about that annoying couple Den
)… oh you can’t imagine how annoying the couple was! arrrrrgggghhhhh she even got a call thru her mobile and she picked it up. ow em ji. you need to get special lesson in etiquette lady *devilish smile* shall we initiate a genocide against annoying movie goers? ROTFL
